General overall explanations of the application process

College Quest ****
[www.edonline.con/demo/main.htm] "internet application for college bound students." The very good sections are the financial aid page, federal and state grants under special areas and money for college. This area is just about the best explanation and informative site that I've seen.

Merit Quest **
[www.meritquest.com/frames6.htm]

This site has a good reviews page, financial frequently asked questions, today's lesson, and newsletter articles. However the best pages are the ones that are currently under construction. So check back later.

All the world's colleges

This section did not require reviews because I could't figure out for what I was reviewing. If you don't find your country don't fret because there are links from one of these pages to other country links.

College and university home pages:
Alphabetical listing of Internet sites for every college and university in the world.

U.S. colleges and universities:
If you want a shorter list than the one above, and your educational tastes are completely domestic, try this site.

Community College Web:
Community colleges are two year post-secondary institutions that offer certificate programs and Associate of Arts (A.A.) degrees. This site provides links to more than 450 CCs.

College Choice Websites and Databases

The College Board Home Page ***
[www.collegeboard.org/]

This site is updated regularly and meant for students. This site does not talk down to you and allows the browser some freedom as to where to go next. It has links to fun stuff as well as career things like search. A very useful thing here is where you can get SAT information as well as register for an SAT with a credit card.

CollegeEdge***
[www.apply.collegeedge.com/]

"what students need to explore, choose, apply to, finance, and move to college- including college search tool and expert advice and guidance. Online applications including the Common Application." I am ot all in favor of online applications not just for confidentiality's sake because Collegeedge assures you of that and takes adequate precautions but because of conveniance. For me it is easier to order a free CD and be able to do it all on my own computer without tying up a phone line. But this could be helpful for applications that Apply '98 doesn't have.

College Guidance Services ***
[http://ultimate.org/2569/]

This site gives very good general advice including reasons to make a resume of yourself, but they do have a service to sell. Outstanding sections are: interview, scholarship mistakes, teacher reccommendations, basics, essay, and parents sections.

About College **
[http://www.aboutcollege.com]

"everything you need to know about college life. For parents and students." This did not provide very much information but did provide for one to ask questions of someone and get a pen pal. There was definitely some useful information for parents.

Bill McCane's counseling corner ***
[http://www.indep.K12.mo.us/WC/bmmcane.html]

Includes improving study habits (which I couldn't connect to), why atend college, recources online, financial aid, booklets, college prep, complete applications online, career information, and college majors and careers. Some of the sections written by Mr. McCane are directed towards parents as counselors sometimes do contact your parents. But the why attend college section does give a good overview of different types of colleges, a chart listing the different levels of education, and what jobs to expect from those levels of education. Something that could be very useful is a chart that a student could fill out to help them decide on a career. This page is well done in that it does not overwhelm you with links although it has a link that can do that too and it's not just about college's but about the greater world out there.

The College Prep Page ****
[www.tpoint.net/~jewels/college.html]

This site is chock full of links. The links are skillfully organized into sections of interest (testing and admissions, financial aid, etc.) This organization could be really helpful if a person were willing to research them.

Peterson's:Colleges and Universities **
[www.putaddresshere]

"Comprehensive guide to undergraduate admissions. Includes a discussion board, in-depth college descriptions, and online applications to hundreds of schools." This site is pretty well laid out although I was never sure if I'd seen all there was to see. The best part of this site was their description of financial aid, it was very explanitory. They also had good advice to parents, quality colleges, and application essay sections, found directly connected to the main page.

Resource Pathways, Inc. *****
[www.collegeguides.com/]

This has to be the best site that I found. I however was looking for free things on the internet and this site reviewed all forms of media: print, video, web pages, and internet recources. So for some people this could be even better than what I am offering. The reviews are definitely thorough. I reccomend visiting there reccommended page because indirectly they give you a very good outline of what your steps should be in the college admission process. It's site is also well laid out and has even won some prestigious awards.

US News and World report***
[http://www.usnews.com/usnews.edu.college.cohome.htm]

-get into college section includes rankings, college search, and apply yourself. The college search was pretty helpful with 6 options to fill in to search for your ideal college. You then can click to in depth info on that college.

Testing Information

The College Board Home Page ***
[www.collegeboard.org/]

This site is updated regularly and meant for students. This site does not talk down to you and allows the browser some freedom as to where to go next. Filling out application options

Apply '98 **
[www.weapply.com]

order a free CD-rom **** that's best feature is that it has more than 530 applications to US colleges. This CD has it's good and bad sideand works best with Windows '95.

Applicant Support Network *
[http://wl.iglou.com/asn/]

"Access to information and resources to help you understand how graduate schools select applicants and how you can write the best application possible." The site is free but there is very little info. However you can look at an actual completed application and their "review" of it.

CampusBound **
[www.interlog.com/~vacomm/campus.html]

"comprehensive online assistance for college applicants, undergraduate and ESL students and graduate-degree candidates. Focus on writing and editing college applications, term papers, and theses." The ability to submit an essay for review would be very helpful however they do have a service that they are trying to sell.

College Scape ***
[www.collegescape.com/default.html]

The president's network ***
[www.studyusa.com/factshts/presbroc.htm]

Attention International Students:

This site can be incredibly helpful. It gives good instructions and seems easy to use. At this site you fill out one application online and they send you later a lost of colleges that you are eligible to apply at. These colleges have previously arranged with the presidents network to get you quickly through the application process should you decide to contact them.

Paying for College

College Counsel ***

"Educational products for parents, students, and guidance counselors. Provider of personalized reports to consumers on choosing and financing college." This site has very good financial aid information and advice to parents, as well as admission tips for students tn the parents and students section. The numbers are a little old in the college application or search section and they are trying to sell something but it still has very good information.

CollegeEdge***
[www.apply.collegeedge.com/]

"what students need to explore, choose, apply to, finance, and move to college- including college search tool and expert advice and guidance. Online applications including teh Common Application." I am ot all in favor of online applications not just for confidentiality's sake because Collegeedge assures you of that and takes adequate precautions but because of conveniance. Scholarship and Grants - Searches and Information

FastWeb College 101 ****
[www.geocities.com/collegepark/1150/]

This site is one of the most entertaining and informative sites I found. Although the site is directed mainly to those already accepted, it has incredibly informative, incisive, honest, and original work by the author. A definate must see!!
